Black, Blue, Grey or White Smoke from Diesel Exhaust
There are a few different colors that you may see when smoke is coming from the exhaust and suggests a problem. Here are the different colors and what they mean.
– Black: You may be dealing with combustion issues, faulty injectors & pump, carbon buildup, air filter issues or poor combustion.
– Blue: This is usually a sign that your engine is burning oil and could be caused as a result of several issues.
– White: White smoke usually indicates too much fuel or not enough heat; both of which will cause combustion issues.
Diesel Engine Knocking Noises
Anytime you hear a knocking noise that is coming from the engine, it indicates there could be a serious problem that should be looked into as soon as possible. There could be issues like timing belt problems, failed bearings, faulty fuel injectors and more. The sooner you have this problem looked at and fixed, the better.
Hard Starting Diesel Engine
The last thing you want to experience as you are hitting the road for a long haul is a truck that is having a hard time starting. Hopefully, the problem isn’t a huge one, and you will be on your way in no time. Some of the most common problems are dead battery, glow plug problems, compression issues and fuel delivery problems.
Diesel Engine has No Power
As your diesel gets older, there may be signs of wear that include a lack of power occasionally. While this can be a sign of age it shouldn’t be ignored. You could be dealing with more than that. Problems like fuel contamination, failing camshaft and more could be the underlying problem that leaves your power lacking.
High Diesel Oil Consumption
Hopefully the use of more oil than normal isn’t because there is a leak somewhere and you are dealing with a smaller problem on your hands. It is just as likely you could be simply burning oil, or your engine is showing signs of its age, but just in case, you should probably have it looked at to avoid bigger, more complex problems.
